Peace water pipes connect to TRNC

The first drops of water from Turkey are epected to be pumped to the TRNC within 10-15 days as the 'Project of the Century' passed a major milestone with completion of an 80km undersea pipeline yesterday.
The overall completion of the 630 million TL project is expected to take place on October 29th, when an official opening ceremony will be attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with all parts of the TRNC expected to have the water flowing from their taps by the end of the year.

Seker Bayram celebrations

Seker Bayram (sugar festival) takes place at the end of the fasting month of Ramazan and lasts for three days. This religious feast is celebrated with family reunions and the giving of presents and sweets to any visitors.
It is traditional for the younger members of the family to be given sweets after they have kissed the older persons hand. This year the TRNC banks and public offices will be closed on Thursday 16th July and will not reopen until Tuesday 21st July as Monday 20th July is also a public holiday which remembers Peace and Freedom Day. On this special day, the Turkish Cypriot air display team, the Turkish Stars, take to the skies over Kyrenia Harbour and thrill the public with their dazzling display.
