It is traditional for the younger members of the family to be given sweets after they have kissed the older persons hand. This year the TRNC banks and public offices will be closed on Thursday 16th July and will not reopen until Tuesday 21st July as Monday 20th July is also a public holiday which remembers Peace and Freedom Day. On this special day, the Turkish Cypriot air display team, the Turkish Stars, take to the skies over Kyrenia Harbour and thrill the public with their dazzling display.
